Miami: Scenes of Sun, Scenes of Inspiration

To the regular traveller and conscientious designer, gazing at the signature art and style of other cultures around the world can inspire real change in terms of your own designs and output. Miami, one of the most popular vacation destinations in the state of Florida, is often visited by people who have booked flights to Miami to enjoy the city’s sun, sea and sand.

But beneath the towering skyscrapers and party atmosphere lies an art movement and history that can inspire every homeowner into making real and daring changes to their home. Just where should you begin?

Miami’s art hotspots

Although Miami’s nightspots may occupy the top spot on many travellers’ must-see lists, it’s actually Miami’s art hotspots that that can really get the creative juices flowing and see you make the most of your trip.

Wynwood Arts District

The Wynwood Arts District is perhaps the most famous out of all the art districts and is home to a number of old warehouses, which have been converted into galleries and studios.

However, the most impressive part of the district are the Wynwood Walls, where established and up-and-coming street artists leave brilliantly vibrant murals that can easily be photographed and used to make a unique canvas print when you return home.

The Design District

The Design District combines the art of Wynwood with the opulence of modern Miami, with art galleries tucked away amongst upmarket independent and designer boutiques, and international design houses. This is a great place to stop and admire art and design from around the world and is bound to be overflowing with inspiration for every aspiring designer or artist.

Art deco

Of all the art movements that Miami’s many galleries exhibit, the art deco movement is by far the most prevalent.

South Beach, perhaps most well-known for the beach with which it shares a name, also stands at the forefront of the art deco movement, with evidence of this style still found in the architecture, the local galleries and in Miami’s skyline. This is an ideal spot for taking pictures too, as South Beach is one of the most photographed areas in Miami and has appeared on many holiday postcards over the years.

When it comes to design, Miami is an exceptional city to visit. Thanks to its mix of culture, art and design it is a perfect destination for inspiring you with out-of-the-box ideas to make your home more beautiful and much more reflective of you.
