For those of you who watch the Sundance Channel’s series The Green, you may already be familiar with their “What’s the Big Idea?” contest.  The contest was designed to inspire “normal Americans” like you and me to submit our “big idea” for helping people to live greener lives.

The submission period ended May 20, but now we all get to vote on our favorite big ideas. You can see short videos about all 25 of the finalists here.  Voting continues until June 24.

elliptigoOne of our favorite eco-artists, S A Schimmel Gold, who uses chopped up junk mail to make stunning portraits, is one of the finalists. I was also thrilled to learn of the ElliptiGO, which is an elliptical commuter bike that allows the “driver” to ride standing up! The rider has a better line of sight and it’s better ergonomically as well.  I also was impressed with the community-based solar plan– a great idea for master-planned communities or very organized green neighborhoods.

Check out the entries, cast your vote, and let us all know what you liked in the comments section.
